LIVING IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
On Monday 23 May a group of students from Liceo “V. Lilla” Francavilla
Fontana visited the wildlife reserve and protected marine area of Torre Guaceto
(Guaceto Tower), on Italy's Puglia coast, just 15km northwest of Brindisi.
The reserve
includes a stretch of coast six kilometers long, characterized by typical
Mediterranean landscape ranging from the sea to sand dunes, Mediterranean scrub
and marshes, bordered by centuries-old olive groves.
The students had the opportunity to get to know the area, to observe plant species that are usually uncommon in
other parts of the region and to appreciate living in harmony with nature.
The place is so
called after a tower which is part of a series of towers existing along the
coast. In the 16th century, because of the continuous and violent Turkish
incursions, an Aragonese family planned and realized the building of these
towers as a new defence system.
Originally the area was characterized by the presence of fresh water, which helped the growth of extensive woodland and varied species of animals - by the way, we also had the chance to see a beautiful solitary heron!

May 2016 - GIMNAZJUM NR2 TRZEBINIA in POLAND – Alcohol and Smoking Awareness Month
The motto of this month was !!!
Stay away from ADDICTION?
Use of addictive substances—tobacco/nicotine, alcohol and
other drugs—during adolescence interferes with brain development. Use of any
addictive substance while the brain is still developing increases the chances
of future use any addictive substances.
THE EARLIER AN INDIVIDUAL STARTS SMOKING, DRINKING OR
USING DRUGS, THE GREATER THE LIKELIHOOD OF DEVELOPING ADDICTION:
9 out of 10 people who abuse or are addicted to nicotine,
alcohol or other drugs began using these substances before they were 18
One way that
addiction and substance abuse can be prevented is through screening and early
intervention.
Messages
that parents, doctors, teachers, the media and others send to children and teens about the dangers
of tobacco/nicotine, alcohol and other drug abuse can be extremely influential
in helping to prevent addiction and reduce substance abuse.
PREVENTION PROGRAMS CAN HELP TEENS
·
Resist social pressures to engage in substance use
·
Strenghten their self-esteem
·
Improve decision-making and communication skills
·
Manage stress and anxiety
During the month GIM2 TRZEBINIA students took part in a workshop conducted by a professional addiction prevention coach. They had a chance to use Alcohol and Drugs Simulation Goggles.
These tools help demonstrate through multiple activities the simulated effect of alcohol impairment including impaired targeting skills, slower judgement, diminished focus, delayed reactions and a loss of balance. During the class the trainer has aslo taught how to deal with emotions. He used a strong argument that appeals to teens more bluntly than the health aspect - MONEY. Taking no intoxicants you can save a large sum and invest in yourself and therefore enjoy good health in adulthood.Performance as a Tool to Prevent Substance Abuse
All over the world, young people are involved in and exposed to
performance-based group activities that indirectly or directly help prevent
substance abuse. They’re dancing, singing, clowning and acting, writing,
composing and choreographing and exhibiting their
work in various places.
Most of the projects focus on strengthening individual and community factors
(protective factors) that allow young people to resist addictions. .
Our students had a chance to watch a drama by a professional theater group entitled 'Make me the tree.' We met dangers associated with nicotine, alcohol and drugs.

OUR ERASMUS+ ALCOHOL AND SMOKING AWARENESS MONTH
A workshop on alcohol and smoking awareness was held
at IISS “Vincenzo Lilla” Francavilla Fontana on Tuesday 17 May. We relied on
“Unplugged”, a European school-based programme for preventing smoking and alcohol
misuse in young people.
The students were involved in group activities
designed to equip them with specific skills and resources to resist negative
social influences and to support knowledge about alcohol and smoking and their
adverse health consequences. They showed a great deal of interest and took part
actively in the workshop.
